The Swiss-born Italian DJ and producer, real name Robert Concina, was best known for his 1990s output of trance and downtempo music. In 1995 he released the chart-topping single “Children,” and in 2001 he set up his own record label, S:alt Records. In recent years his musical focus was on OpenLab, a radio station he launched in Ibiza in 2012 that was geared towards mellow and experimental sounds.
DJ Mag Italia first reported news of Concina’s death. Joe T Vannelli, a friend of the producer, said: “The tragic news of the passing of such a great talent and artist leaves me completely incredulous and shocked. With him, a big part of my life as a recording artist has also departed. I will miss our arguments, our fights, his judgements, but above all, I will miss his unbeatable talent for finding unique sounds and melodies.”
