Review: Sofi Tukker – Johny (Alex Cecil & Bob Gravity Remix)

Alex Cecil is a New York producer who, interestingly, decides to serve up a remix for his first ever track. It finds him tackling a cut by Grammy nominated pair Sofi Tukker, who make big pop music and had great success with Drinkee recently. This remix of Cecil’s is sure to establish him further on the underground scene and shows he has plenty of studio skills.

It finds him adding a slick warehouse feel to the cut. With big, meaty, driving drums carrying the whole thing along and urging you to dance. Some moody chords are draped over the top to add tension, and some steamy sexiness comes from the female vocals up top. Some steppy melodies add colour, and the whole thing is a truly absorbing cut that will stand out in any DJ set. As first productions go, then, this is a fine one.
