Berlin club Griessmuehle has launched a petition in a bid to avoid imminent closure, as RA reports
According to the text accompanying the Change.org campaign, the lease on the canal-side venue ends on January 31st “and will not be extended by the owner of the site (SIAG Property II GmbH). If we don’t act now, another piece of Berlin club culture will disappear!”
The post goes on to explain that, despite the club’s best efforts, there has so far been no communication with the owners. The team has tried to put the owners in contact with various external bodies, including Berlin Club Commission and Berlin culture senator Klaus Lederer, but no avail.
Potential investors, who have guaranteed the venue’s safety for the next seven-to-ten years, also contacted the owners in September but “have so far not been taken into account,” according to the post.
“Four years ago, SIAG Property II GmbH bought the Sonnenallee 221 property to redevelop the site,” the post continues. “This was followed by fixed-term leases every six months. The building permit for the property was issued in early November 2019. The current owner would like to quickly resell the site.”
