Ricardo Villalobos is a legend among DJs and favourite of many. His music somethimes seems to be out of this world and his persona behind the deck made him even more popular. Richie Hawtin and Sven Väth revealed their funny stories with Ricardo that you can read below.
RICHIE HAWTIN
“I’ve had the pleasure of playing with Ricardo many times over the years at incredibly inspiring events at Fabric, Robert Johnson, Sonar Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival and beyond. Playing with Ricardo is more of an exploration than a performance: bouncing sonic ideas back and forth always with the freedom of pushing towards the outer limits. Often we’d bring along our laptops and drum machines and just create complete new tapestries on the fly, which resulted in some of the deepest and thought-provoking sets that I’ve ever been part of.”
SVEN VÄTH
“I remember Ricardo coming regularly to my club Omen in Frankfurt around 1990/1991. He always brought his bongos and played percussion during my set, and we became friends. A few years later he joined the Cocoon booking agency as an artist, and shortly after that he became resident DJ on the terrace of Amnesia at Cocoon Ibiza.”
