Richie Hawtin announces audiovisual album

Richie Hawtin has released an audiovisual mix album off the back of his 2018 CLOSE live tour.

‘CLOSE COMBINED’, released on Plus 8, takes scenes from the CLOSE live tour that reached Glasgow, London and Tokyo in a mix of performance and crowd-sourced visuals.

The album presents crowd view, stage set-up and equipment close-ups in a three panel layout which allows the audience to delve deeper into Hawtin’s creative impulses.

The CLOSE live experiment has also been featured at festivals like Sónar, Primavera Sound, Nuits Sonores and concerts at The Roundhouse in London, L’Olympia in Paris, and the Sydney Opera House.

Hawtin explained this project is “designed to bring greater transparency to the underlying art of DJing in the ‘press-play’ era.”

He added: “I want to be as transparent as possible in how, why and what I play in order to bring focus onto the intuitive spontaneity that is at the heart of a great DJ performance.”
