Olympic officials consider breakdancing for 2024 games in Paris

Parisian organizers have officially proposed breakdancing to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), alongside skateboarding, surfing, and climbing. The push for adoption aligns itself with the inclusion of “breaking,” as the sport is often referred to, in the 2018 Olympic youth games in Buenos Aires.

The IOC has until December of 2020, just after the Tokyo Games of that summer, to reach a final conclusion. Fortunately for backers of the four youth-friendly games under recent consideration, the IOC’s president, Thomas Bach, has geared emphatic Olympic efforts towards capturing the attention of younger generations. Even better for break dancing specifically, Paris is home to roughly one million break dancers, the World DanceSport Federation estimates.
