For the past two years, Mafred Lotz and Jason Camp have taken their artistic drive and their shared love for electronic music, and formed the West Coast Canadian Techno duo known as FNKSTLL /fəNG/ /stil/ /aH/. The artist name originates from the German word, “Funkstille”, which translates into “Radio Silence”.
Their productions are dark and minimal using classic sounds like the TR-707, TB-303 and a range of Detroit Techno chords and samples. Their inspiration and style is generated through the cold grey winters that overtake Canada for more than 6 months out of the year, and the vastness of the Pacific Ocean that lays at their doorstep.
In April 2018 they released there first track “Time Travel” on the Montreal based label “La Famagalia”. The track soon after made its way into one Spotify’s largest techno playlists curated by Island Beats Music. “ We feel honoured and humbled to have our name FNKSTLL sitting next to Nick Curly, Loco Dice and Acid Pauli (to name a few on the list). We find a lot of inspiration through these artists and now tens of thousands of people will hear “Time Travel” before “Trick Nuts” by Nick Curly. We couldn’t be more happy!”
FNKSTL is set to release their first EP early this summer and by already making there way into listeners ears all around world this duo is something to watch out for.
