Two of electronic music’s most exciting artists bring two completely new perspectives to a timeless Stereo Productions classic.
DJ Chus’ Underwater needs little introduction. An iconic Stereo Productions release, the track has become a timeless part of Chus’ catalogue and a reference point for the label’s sound. Originally conceived as a modern reinterpretation of Harry Thumann’s iconic classic, Underwater quickly established its own identity following its release in 2022, combining the disco influences that have always been central to Chus’ musical DNA with contemporary Indie House energy. Hypnotic, uplifting and instantly recognisable, the track became one of Stereo Productions’ standout releases while reinforcing something that has always defined great electronic music: a truly timeless record can continue to evolve without losing what made it special in the first place.
Now, Underwater enters its next chapter with two brand-new remixes from JØRD and JATS, two artists who represent a new generation of electronic music while already making a significant impact on the scene today. For DJ Chus, the decision to entrust these new interpretations to JØRD and JATS was a deliberate one. Both producers have developed distinctive production styles and, more importantly, a completely fresh approach to how electronic music can be created, presented and experienced. Rather than simply following established formulas, they are part of a generation redefining the boundaries of the scene.
“These two guys are not only the future of the electronic music scene, they are also the present. I chose JØRD and JATS because of their production styles and the completely new ways they are bringing music to our industry. Underwater is a special record to me, so I wanted artists who could respect its essence while taking it somewhere new and exciting.” – DJ Chus
Up first, JØRD brings his unmistakable touch to the record, drawing on the groove-led sensibility that has made him one of the most exciting electronic exports from Brazil. With over 2 million monthly listeners and performances at major festivals including Lollapalooza, So Track Boa, and Ultra, JØRD has established himself as one of Brazil’s leading electronic exports, with releases on Experts Only, Maccabi House and Nervous alongside collaborations with Rafael, and Vintage Culture. His latest single ‘Baby Do You Wanna Bump’ on Vintage Culture’s Affairs label showcased his unique style and earned JØRD his first Beatport No.1. His music has garnered massive support from the likes of Camelphat, Solomun, John Summit, Max Styler, Gordo, Adam Ten, and many more.
His interpretation of Underwater is a natural extension of that identity. Respecting the soul and emotional essence of Chus’ original, JØRD introduces deeper textures, powerful synth work and a more contemporary groove, reshaping the track into a fresh and dynamic dancefloor experience. The familiar spirit remains, but the production feels unmistakably JØRD: modern, energetic and built around an instinctive understanding of movement.
Completing the two-track package, French producer JATS takes the record in another direction, bringing his own blend of House, Afro-Tech and Indie Dance influences to one of electronic music’s most recognisable melodies.
Having steadily built momentum through releases on respected imprints including DAYS like NIGHTS, VIVa MUSIC, Mektoub Records, REDOLENT and Purified, JATS has developed a reputation for productions that balance musical sophistication with genuine dancefloor impact. His recent debut on Stereo Productions with Power further established that connection, earning heavy support from artists including Solomun, CamelPhat, Adam Ten, Mita Gami and Chus & Ceballos, to name a few.
For his Underwater remix, JATS introduces a captivating female vocal that immediately changes the emotional character of the record. The nostalgic quality of the vocal sits against his contemporary production, allowing the timeless melodies to take on a new life while maintaining the energy and sophistication that have become central to his sound. The result is an expansive, emotive and powerful interpretation that can move effortlessly from intimate club moments to the biggest festival environments.
For almost three decades, Stereo Productions has been synonymous with groove-driven, forward-thinking electronic music, and Underwater has become an important part of that continuing story. Bringing two artists from a new generation into the record’s world feels like a natural progression, connecting Chus’ musical heritage with producers who are actively shaping the sound of electronic music today.
