Fresh from his recent debut on Simina Grigoriu’s Kuukou, Boom Merchant is an innovative techno producer whose riveting style is a melting pot of influences ranging from jazz to hip hop.
Born in Ireland and currently living in Mexico, Boom Merchant’s style is oriented around heavy basslines, gritty percussion, and gripping hooks. His memorable approach stands out in DJ sets, and his impressive catalogue also includes labels such as La La’s Brand New Records and T78’s Autektone Dark.
On remix duty, Moog Conspiracy is best known for the many releases on his own imprint, Elektrotribe Records, but he is also becoming a regular feature of Tribal Pulse. Based in Germany, Moog Conspiracy is a dynamic artist whose style is a fusion of raw percussion and intense melodies set against a backdrop of dystopian atmosphere.
The original mix of “Vandalist” opens the release with its hammering kick drum and phasing percussion, forming a framework for hardcore-inspired vocal snippets. Uplifting chords mark the breakdown, providing contrast with the ominous vibe of its main groove.
Moog Conspiracy’s remix of “Vandalist” keeps the dark undertones, but strips back the original’s drums, and makes more prominent use of the breakdown’s chords. Running the uplifting chords over the driving percussive sections to create an emotive version.
Closing the release is Boom Merchant’s alternative version of “Vandalist” titled ‘BM’s Dark Drums’ remix. As the title suggests, it’s got thickened drums, and removes the emotive chords from the breakdown to create more brutal energy.
