Azzecca reworks Rex The Dog ‘Change this Pain for Ecstasy’ on Kompakt

Rounding off a career debut year which makes meteors look lazy, Chicago’s Azzecca remixes one of summer’s monster tracks, Rex The Dog’s ‘Change this Pain for Ecstasy’, out now on Kompakt.

Azzecca’s first outing on the revered German imprint is one more step up for the fiery charismatic DJ/producer, following the recent big success of ‘U Fool/Tell That Boy’ (Higher Ground) which also bagged her a Danny Mini Mix, Pete Tong Mix, Arielle’s Big Whopper, Jack Saunders Next Wave and significant press and radio support worldwide. Her back catalogue also includes releases on Adam Ten’s Maccabi House, REALM Records, and remixing TIBASKO on Another Rhythm, since her debut single only last Autumn, and the now 7mil+ streamed ‘Other Side’ on Higher Ground which fully put her on the map last year.

‘Change This Pain’ (Azzecca remix) has a hard act to follow in the original, Pete Tong’s Essential New Tune in May and a summer anthem with some 90s DNA. Azzecca has brought her own very different dark energy to the ‘absolutely perfect track’ with a more ‘stripped back techno vibe’ which is already shaping to be a winter monster in its own right. A rampaging, thundering beat, harsh dystopian discords and sirens – the remix still showcases the raunchy female vocal but riffs on the title lines, ending an extended breakdown with an epic drop just to take ravers over any edge that’s left.

‘The second I discovered the original, it quickly became one of my favourite tracks and I started playing it out in all of my sets. Pete Tong sent a video I’d posted of me playing it to Rex the Dog, so when he asked if I’d be down to work on a remix I was totally surprised and beyond honoured.’

Azzecca’s remix is already in her sets, where it ‘always goes completely off. The crowd went mad at WHP, Sound in LA and at Burning Man.’ And now, so can we all.
