Does the 26th Edition of Sónar Festival Have the Best Line-Up so Far?

Words: Nika Bogdanic

Yes, it’s already been 25 years since Sónar festival set its name as a world known link between music, technology and creativity! It’s a meeting point for creative people from every corner of the world focused on innovation and sound. The 26th edition of the festival will take over the city of Barcelona from 18th – 20th of July 2019. However, cultural activities will take place throughout the city during the entire week. Whether you’re into seeing your favourite artists, discovering new ones or you’re more interested in learning about the world of machine learning and sound design with some of the world’s most known creative technologists, Sónar Barcelona is the place to be.

If you’re a music nerd just like we are, this year’s line-up is going to knock your socks off. Here’s who you can listen to each day/night of the festival:

Thursday, July 18th: Sónar by Day

On the first day of the festival, SonarVillage will host Leon Vynehall, who has always shown an ability to convey an emotional charge, while appealing to the primal instinct in everyone to dance.  After him, Ross From Friends will bring together elements of funk, pop, house, jungle, garage, soul and techno. The cherry on top will be the closing of the first Sónar by Day by Daphni, nowadays considered one of the most influential artists whose creativity can’t be matched easily.

Friday, July 19th: Sónar by Day

Even though there are a lot of great artists performing on Friday, the star will definitely be one of the UK’s best known electronic artists, Maya Jane Coles, presenting Nocturnal Sunshine, her second album. Expectations are high for the show and the record, where she experiments with more downtempo and urban sounds.

Friday, July 19th: Sónar by Night
The first night of Sónar’s 26th edition will burst with excellent artists! Whether you’re more into hip hop and can’t wait to see artists like A$AP Rocky or you’re more of an electronic music fan, Sónar has something that’s your cup of tea. We’re not sure how we’re going to be at different stages at the same time, but we’re hoping to see Mall Grab, Daniel Avery, Four Tet, Disclosure DJ set and DJ Koze. Floating Points has chosen SonarCar for his only date in Spain in 2019. With an exclusive 6 hour set, he will fill the space with all his music. However, we’re a bit more excited about Peggy Gou & Palms Trax at the SonarLab. What about you?

Saturday, July 20th: Sónar by Day

From our experience, Saturday is always the best day of the festival. People are already in a good mood, there are more visitors and the music gets even better. This year, the Red Axes and Erol Alkan will dominate the SonarVillage stage, Theo Parrish the SonarDôme and Max Cooper the SonarHall.

Saturday, July 20th: Sónar by Night

The closing night of the festival will be in the sign of Paul Kalkbrenner, who is more into live sets than playing records; Amelie Lens, the new phenomenon in techno, who will bring one of her famous and energetic sets to the SonarClub stage; DJ Tennis, whose sets are packed with undiscovered and rare disco, house, techno, funk and electro gems; and Dixon, who will take care of one of the most important moments of the festival: the Saturday night closing on the SonarPub stage.
