Christian Smith and Drunken Kong joined forces for a CODE Records release

CODE Records present a collaborative techno release by Christian Smith and Drunken Kong, which alongside their thundering original track, also features remixes by Cesar Almena and Nuke.

Christian Smith and Drunken Kong are both individually successful, but they have previously collaborated on a release for Tronic.

Tronic is a highly respected record label run by Christian Smith, who’s a Swedish artist that’s been releasing music for nearly three decades. Along with numerous releases on his own label, he has featured his dark and driving style on other imprints ranging from Adam Beyer’s Drumcode to Alan Fitzpatrick’s We Are The Brave.

Drunken Kong is a Japanese duo famed for their residency at Tokyo’s iconic Womb nightclub. They are also skilled producers who are fresh from their release on Drumcode, but they have also worked with other prestigious imprints such as Monika Kruse’s Terminal M and Sian’s Octopus.

On remix duty, Cesar Almena is the Spanish artist behind CODE Records and he also runs the Code parties at Fabrik in Madrid. He is a respected DJ within the Spanish techno scene and an accomplished producer who has featured on other imprints such as Naked Lunch.

Nuke co-founded the CODE parties and record label alongside Cesar Almena and his hypnotic remix on this release showcases the intense style he has featured on other respected labels ranging from Arjun Vagale and Ramiro Lopez’s Odd Recordings to Marco Bailey’s MB Elektronics.

The original mix of “Succession” opens the release with an electrifying arpeggio line that’s underpinned by a pounding kick drum. Its thrashing hi-hats and ominous vocals add to the unfolding tension that’s cut by dramatic breakbeat sections. Cesar Almena’s remix of “Succession” is a stripped-back version built around a breakbeat groove. Nuke’s remix adds a new hypnotising synth line and high-speed percussion to create a mesmerising groove with relentless energy.
