Andrea Oliva’s current status as an established international headline act is the result of an entirely organic journey. He taught himself to DJ at the age of 16, and in 2004 he was first invited to play at Space. Andrea developed his production style under the likes of VIVa Music, Saved Records, Be As One and Cadenza, with two 2012 releases – the ‘Click Off’ EP on Cadenza and ‘Scene’ on Be As One – breaking into the Beatport top 10 downloads and leading to him becoming RA’ s most charted artist in February and March the following year. From 2013 Andrea is landing regular headline slots at ANTS in Ibiza – Ushuaia’s premiere underground party.

Andrea´s dedication to the underground scene has garnered him widespread support, and his music is appreciated by a range of dance music luminaries. 2017 has been a landmark year for the producer, who had his first headline residency in Ibiza at Hi this season, made his Boiler Room debut and helped relaunch Erick Morillo’s Sondos imprint with a ‘Welcome To the Jungle’ remix that’s been everywhere this summer.

Let’s start with your ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ remixes released last month. What led to this cooperation? What was your starting idea for these remixes?

I was a fan of the original since they released it. It became a classic and I used to play it a lot…I didn’t expect that they would request a remix from myself one day and so you can imagine how happy I was when they asked me to do it. It was a big challenge, but I am happy it turned out so well!

In your rich discography you signed for some of the most notable labels, such as Desolat, Hot Creations, VIVa Music, Saved Records, Be As One, Hideout, Moon Harbour. Cuttin Headz How does your creative process start?

There is just a little routine with the workflow in the studio, but the ideas come up spontaneously whilst you jam on the machines. The more you feel the desire from the labels to sign your tracks, the more productive you get. That’s what happened in my case. There is nothing better than to see your music being released and played out there.

To most of the people who visited Ibiza, your sets were the ones that they remembered. So what makes Ibiza so magical in your opinion and what makes it diverse from other places in the world?

It’s a place where people come for vacation. Of course it’s a beautiful place and it feels good to enjoy your time on the island, but the most important fact is that people come to celebrate electronic music and its DJs.

How would you describe the current situation on the global electronic scene?

You have new names constantly coming out which means the scene is more active then ever. Hypes come and go and things are constantly evolving. As long as artists, clubs and festivals stay innovative I see no negative situations at all for the future.

When is the best time of day to be in studio?

Deep in the night when everybody else is sleeping.

Are you currently working on some new music? Can we expect your new releases soon?

I’ve just finished a remix for Tiga’s “woke” which is going to be out in November on Turbo recordings and as we speak I am working on new music. I am about to build my own label too which is a lot of work.

What tracks you are playing recently make best peak-time moments?

There is so much good music out there and I get new music every day…I can’t just mention a few.

Tell us something about your collaboration with ANTS? How it all did started?

The idea was basically to build a party where the main force is the unity of the DJ’s and the brand rather then just having big headliners. It was built with talent, good music and hard work. The rest needs to be experienced. I love playing the ANTS parties.

You are playing at long awaited ANTS Halloween, so what are your expectations?

Very excited! Really! The UK is one of my favorite places to DJ – the crowd there is phenomenal.

Is there any anecdote from ANTS parties you would like to share?

I don’t have a special one in mind now, but what I can tell you is that every ANTS is like a reunion of friends – its so much fun for real.

Where can we hear you in the following weeks?

Of course the Ibiza closings for Ushuaïa and Hï, ADE is around the corner where I play the Paradise and HYTE events. I am also going back to Berlin to play Watergate and fabric in London is coming up soon aswell…I am very much looking forward to going back playing more clubs around the world this winter.

Andrea Oliva plays ANTS Halloween at Manchester’s Warehouse Project on Saturday 28th October. For more information and tickets please visit
